Registration Opens for the 2010 Philadelphia Insurance Triathlon
November 1, 2009 (Philadelphia, PA) – One of the top ranked multi-sport events in the country -- the Philadelphia Insurance Triathlon (PHLYTRI) – will open registration for the 2010 event on Monday, November 2 at 10 am EST at www.PhillyTri.com.
Taking place June 25-27, the 2010 PHLYTRI will host an entire weekend of events including an Olympic distance race (1.5K swim, 40K bike and 10K run) with a $13,500 prize purse, a Sprint distance race (.9K swim, 24K bike and 5K run), Kids Fun Run & Duathlon and a two-day multi-sport expo. To receive a text message reminder one hour before registration opens on November 2, participants can text the keyword PHLYTRI to 67768.
“The PHLYTRI is proud to be back again in 2010 as one of the premier triathlons in the U.S.,” said Lars Beck, Race Director. “We have added a few new features in response to participant feedback as we continue to raise the bar for this great multi-sport weekend. Our Olympic distance race will sell out quickly so make sure to register early and guarantee your spot for June!”
As a new feature for 2010, organizers have added an Elite Amateur wave in both the Olympic and Sprint Races. Eligibility for the Olympic Elite Amateur wave requires a time under 2:15 for men and 2:30 for women within the past two years. For the Sprint, it's a top five overall finish in a Sprint Race in the past two years. Registrants need to provide a link to the qualifying results. Additionally, each 2010 participant will receive a free technical race shirt with their 2010 registration packet.
The Cancer Center at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia will once again serve as the event’s official charitable partner with various activities promoting and raising funds for CHOP. Primary among those will be the Karr Barth CHOP Charity Challenge, a team challenge competition included in Saturday’s Sprint distance race. PHLYTRI is proud to also partner with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Team in Training program and to welcome the American Cancer Society’s DetermiNation program to its charitable efforts as athletes dedicate their training and participation to raise money in the fight against cancer.
Founded in 2005, the PHLYTRI is one of the largest and most popular triathlons in the country. Held in the city’s historic Fairmount Park, the race was named a top-five triathlon in the United States by Outside Magazine and was lauded as one of the top big city triathlons by Inside Triathlon Magazine.
