After the recent news of a fish kill up river from the city portion of the Schuylkill River, concerns as to whether or not the viability of swimming in the city's river for the 2nd annual Philadelphia Insurance Triathlon in Fairmount Park were on the rise. Recent news from both the EPA and the City, however, ensures that the water quality is great for swimming.
To show that the river is safe to swim in for the race, the race founders, race director, staff from Philadelphia Insurance, The Children's Hospital and others will jump into the Schuylkill where the triathletes will enter this weekend and swim in the famed river.
Opportunities will exist before, during and after the short swim to conduct interviews with the race staff, take photographs and get an accurate and clear understanding of the safety of the water for this weekend's race.
